With new e-commerce fashion businesses seeming to launch daily, the fashion world has new found appeal for a growing number of MBA students, according to Business Week. Recent grads have become less entranced with traditional MBA career paths like Fortune 500 employment, Wall Street and consulting. With the women’s wear industry poised to exceed $621 billion worldwide in 2014 and men’s wear approaching $402 billion, the financial motive is clear, according to Treehugger.com. However, freshly minted MBAs are seeking far more than just dollar signs in the fashion industry; they’re hungry for ways to have a more stimulating, hands-on impact on the world. Working in fashion can be a hip and dynamic way to satisfy that urge. Education and E-Commerce Trends With the explosion of the Internet, technology and retail have collided head on. There are now more opportunities than ever for MBAs in a sector that in the past hadn’t actively recruited business school graduates. Rebecca Joffrey, director of career development at the Dartmouth College Tuck School of Business, notes students interested in technology have picked up on trends toward e-commerce.
